WHY WE DEVELOPED IT.

Building a calm, firm hold on a traditional wooden IGP dumbbell is difficult for many dogs.

The IQ Training Dumbbell was developed specifically as a training tool for teaching calm and firm dumbbell holding. The padded center bar with a cushion effect resembles the feel of biting into a bite tug — and many dogs naturally bite firmly into a bite tug.

As a result, calm and firm holding behavior often develops much more naturally than with a classic trial dumbbell.

In practical training, we use the IQ Training Dumbbell for most holding exercises and only switch back to the traditional trial dumbbell occasionally for transfer work.

The idea also aligns perfectly with the well-known Two Toys Approach used in modern retrieve training: building speed, intensity, and enthusiasm first — while developing calm, firm holding behavior through rewarding equipment and positive engagement.

The side cords additionally allow interactive grip work.
