What is the IQ Winter Parka made for?

For cold winter days and long hours outdoors with your dog: walks in the snow, tracking, training, trials and the waiting in between. Its very warm insulation is especially welcome when you spend a long time standing at the training ground, watching or waiting for your turn. How warm you feel also depends on movement, the layers underneath and the weather.

Is the winter parka suitable for dog training?

Yes. Separate treat compartments, an XL rear pocket with zips, the MOLLE attachment for IQ MagDock and three internal compartments for training magnets keep your equipment within reach. The two-way front zip opens from the bottom when you need more freedom of movement. The very warm insulation makes the parka particularly suitable for cold training days and longer waits.

What is the two-way zip for?

The YKK metal front zip opens from the top and the bottom. That lets you create more room at the bottom when sitting, bending down or taking longer strides, without opening the parka completely.

What insulation does the winter parka have?

The parka is very warmly insulated with Feathertouch padding made of 100% polyester. It is a synthetic insulation, not down or feathers. Fleece inside the collar and in the hand-warmer compartments adds to the comfort.

How robust is the fabric despite its soft look?

The scratch-resistant outer fabric comes from the hunting sector. Additional bar-tack stitching reinforces high-stress areas. Before we use a fabric, we test it ourselves – including tug games with our dogs. These practical durability tests do not make the parka bite-proof or indestructible, however. It is clothing for your everyday life with your dog, not a tug toy.

What weather protection does the winter parka offer?

The PU membrane is waterproof, windproof and breathable. Its waterproof rating is 10,000 mm, its breathability 10,000 g/m²/24 h. The PFC-free DWR finish also gives the outer fabric a water-repellent treatment. The detachable storm hood adds protection from wind and cold.

What does PFC-free DWR finish mean?

DWR is the water-repellent treatment of the outer fabric. On the IQ Winter Parka this finish is PFC-free according to the supplier. The statement refers to this treatment.

Are treats and hands kept separate in the pockets?

Yes. The two-part front pockets have a fleece-lined hand-warmer compartment with magnetic closure and a separate, coated treat compartment. So you can warm your hands without reaching in among the treats.

How do I clean the treat compartments?

The treat compartments are coated and wipe clean with a damp cloth. You can remove food residue and grease with a damp cloth.

How does the attachment for IQ MagDock work?

Via the MOLLE attachment you can fix the smart IQ MagDock treat pouch to the parka. For quick rewards the pouch stays open for as long as you want. When needed, it closes magnetically – practical when running or between training sessions.

Are IQ MagDock and training magnets included?

No. The IQ MagDock treat pouch is a separate accessory and not included. We show it in some product images so you can see how it sits on the MOLLE attachment. Training magnets are not included either.

Can I use the parka with a magnet system?

Yes. Inside there are three slots for training magnets. Check beforehand that the dimensions of your magnets fit the compartments.

How does my equipment stay secure in the rear pocket?

The XL rear pocket is accessible from both sides. Both openings close with YKK zips. Close both openings completely so that toys, leads and other equipment stay securely stowed while walking, bending down and training.

Is the hood detachable?

Yes. The storm hood gives your head extra protection from wind and cold and can be removed when needed.

What is the difference between the unisex parka and the women’s zip-off winter coat?

Both models offer very warm Feathertouch insulation, robust outer fabric and training features with treat compartments, XL rear pocket, MOLLE attachment and internal compartments for magnets. The unisex parka has a fixed length and an additional Napoleon chest pocket. The women’s coat offers a detachable extension and extendable sleeves.

How do I wash the winter parka?

Wash it at 40 °C with similar colours and close the zips beforehand. Do not use fabric softener. Remove inserted training magnets and attached accessories before washing. You can wipe the treat compartments with a damp cloth in between. Also follow the additional instructions on the sewn-in care label.
