How does the coat fit compared with the women’s MFJ?

How warm is the IQ Zip-Off Winter Coat compared with a regular dog training jacket?

Considerably warmer. Regular dog training jackets are designed for active training and deliberately provide lighter insulation to help you avoid overheating while working. The IQ Zip-Off Winter Coat is a very warm winter coat: its Feathertouch insulation is designed for long hours outdoors, whether you are waiting at the training ground, letting a track age or taking long walks in the cold. You still have the dog training features: a wipe-clean XL rear pocket, separate treat and fleece-lined hand-warmer compartments and the MOLLE attachment for the IQ MagDock treat pouch.

What is the IQ Zip-Off Winter Coat made for?

For cold winter days and long hours outdoors with your dog: walks in the snow, training, trials and the waiting in between. Its very warm insulation is especially welcome when you stand at the training ground for a while or wait for a track to age. How warm you feel also depends on movement, base layers and the weather.

Can I train in the winter coat?

Yes. If the coat length gets in your way or your dog’s during training, unzip the lower extension and stow it in the XL rear pocket. The remaining parka still covers your seat. Separate treat compartments, the MOLLE attachment for IQ MagDock and three internal compartments for training magnets round off the dog-training features.

When should I wear the full-length coat, and when should I unzip the extension?

Wear it long when warmth matters: while waiting at the training ground, on long walks or at the stables with your horse. Unzip the extension when freedom of movement matters, such as during obedience or protection work, if the coat length gets in your way or your dog’s. Simply stow the extension in the XL rear pocket; the remaining parka still covers your seat.

What is the two-way zip for?

The YKK metal front zip opens from the top and the bottom. That gives you more freedom of movement at the bottom when sitting or taking longer strides, without opening the coat completely. If you want permanently less length for training, remove the zip-off extension.

What insulation does the winter coat have?

The coat is very warmly lined with Feathertouch insulation made of 100% polyester. It is a synthetic fill, not down or feathers. Fleece inside the collar and in the hand-warmer compartments adds to the comfort.

How robust is the fabric despite its soft look?

The scratch-resistant outer fabric comes from the hunting sector. Additional bar-tack stitching reinforces high-stress areas. Before we use a fabric, we test it ourselves – including tug games with our dogs. These practical durability tests do not make the coat bite-proof or indestructible, however. It is clothing for your everyday life with your dog, not a tug toy.

What weather protection does the winter coat offer?

The soft PU membrane is waterproof, windproof and breathable. Its waterproof rating is 10,000 mm, its breathability 10,000 g/m²/24 h. The PFC-free DWR finish additionally makes the outer fabric water-repellent. The insulated storm hood adds protection against wind and cold.

What does PFC-free DWR finish mean?

DWR stands for the water-repellent treatment of the outer fabric. On the IQ Zip-Off Winter Coat this finish is PFC-free according to the supplier. The statement refers to this treatment.

Do hands and treats stay separate in the pockets?

Yes. The two-part front pockets have a fleece-lined hand-warmer compartment with magnetic closure and a separate, coated treat compartment. So you warm your hands independently of the treats. Food residue and greasy deposits can be wiped off the treat compartment with a damp cloth.

What does the attachment for IQ MagDock do?

Via the MOLLE attachment you can fix the smart IQ MagDock treat pouch to the coat. It gives you quick access to your rewards and stays open as long as you want. When needed it closes magnetically – handy when running or between training sessions.

Are IQ MagDock and training magnets included?

No. The IQ MagDock treat pouch is a separate accessory and not included. We show it in some product images so you can see how it sits on the MOLLE attachment. Training magnets are not included either.

Is the coat suitable for training with magnets?

Yes. Inside there are three insert pockets for magnets. There you can place suitable magnets for your training system. Check beforehand that the dimensions of your magnets fit the pockets.

How is the rear pocket secured?

The XL rear pocket is accessible from both sides. Both openings close with YKK zips so toys, leads and other gear stay safely stowed while walking, bending down or training. Close both openings fully for that.

Can I sit on the rear pocket?

Many handlers do: the coat is long enough for the rear pocket to sit underneath you when you sit down. The robust outer fabric and warm insulation help insulate you from cold benches and trailer edges. First remove any hard or sharp items from the pocket and close both zips.

What are the extendable sleeves for?

The sleeves are deliberately long and designed to be worn with the cuffs folded back, as shown in the product photos. When your hands get cold without gloves, unfold the cuffs to cover your hands and help keep them warm. Sleeve measurements in the size chart are taken with the cuffs folded back.

Can I remove the hood?

Yes. The insulated storm hood gives your head and face extra protection against wind and cold and can be removed when needed.
