How warm and waterproof is the MFJ 3.0?

The MFJ 3.0 has a waterproof rating of 20,000 mm and features taped and reinforced seams, keeping you reliably dry even in heavy rain. The outer fabric is durable enough to be used in professional K9 vests and is designed to withstand contact with large dogs. The insulation is moderate: very warm for active use in fall and winter, but intentionally not as heavily insulated as a down coat.

What makes the MFJ 3.0 different from a conventional winter jacket?

The storage system. It includes a large rear pocket for toys, leashes and training equipment, removable treat pockets, a Napoleon pocket and several inside pockets. Behind the treat pockets, there are also fleece-lined handwarmer pockets. The inside of the jacket also features three magnetic compartments, for example for Top-Matic products, as well as attachment loops for the IQ Modular Treat Pouch.

Which versions of the MFJ 3.0 are available?

The MFJ 3.0 is available in black, olive and blue, with blue offered as a limited edition. Each color is available in both a unisex and a women's fit. For professional K9 handlers, the MFJ K9 Pro is available with additional tactical features.

MFJ 3.0 or Training Jacket 2.0 — which one do I need?

Both are fully waterproof rain jackets with a 20,000 mm waterproof rating, the same durable outer fabric and taped seams. The difference is that the MFJ 3.0 is insulated, making it the warm option for fall and winter. The Training Jacket 2.0 is unlined and serves as the jacket equivalent of the dog sports vest. It is the only jacket with the patented chest pocket and drawcord system and is compatible with the IQ Ball Pouch for concealed reward delivery during heeling.

How should I wash and reproof the jacket?

Use a technical cleaner rather than conventional laundry detergent, such as Nikwax Tech Wash. Refresh the durable water-repellent finish regularly with Nikwax TX.Direct Wash-In. This helps maintain the jacket's waterproof performance and breathability over time.

Can I attach the IQ Modular Treat Pouch to the jacket?

Yes. It attaches to the loops, just as it does on all IQ apparel except T-shirts. The IQ Modular Treat Pouch can easily be moved between your jacket, vest, hoodie, softshell and IQ Multifunctional Belt.

Who developed the MFJ 3.0?

The Multifunctional Jacket has been the original since 2011. It was developed by IQ Dogsport co-founder and two-time FMBB World Champion Dr. Florian Knabl for daily work with powerful dogs. For years, it has been worn by dog sport competitors, K9 handlers and professional service dog handlers.

Which jacket is suitable for dog training in fall and winter?

A cold-weather training jacket must do three things: remain reliably waterproof, with a 20,000 mm waterproof rating and taped seams; be durable enough to withstand large dogs and claws; and provide dedicated storage for training, including a rear pocket, treat pockets and magnetic compartments. Most conventional outdoor jackets meet only one of these requirements. The Multifunctional Jacket has been developed specifically for this purpose since 2011.

What should I look for in a dog handler jacket?

Focus on four things: genuine waterproofing with taped seams rather than merely a water-repellent coating; tear-resistant material that can withstand claws and tugging; well-designed storage with a large rear pocket, removable treat pockets and internal pockets; and compatibility with modular training accessories such as treat pouches and magnetic reward systems. The MFJ 3.0 meets all four criteria.

Is the MFJ 3.0 the right jacket for me?

Yes, if you are looking for a jacket designed for working with your dog rather than simply going for walks. Since 2011, the MFJ has been the original winter jacket for dog sports: waterproof, built to withstand large dogs and equipped with enough storage for a complete training session. For anyone who regularly trains outdoors during fall and winter, it is the jacket you buy once and buy right.
